Albert Sosnowski (45-2-1, 27 KO) outpointed experienced Paolo Vidoz (26-7, 15 KO) in a battle for the vacant EBU heavyweight title which took place at York Hall in London. "The Dragon" is a third Pole who became European Champion, after heavyweight Przemysław Saleta (2002) and welterweight Rafał Jackiewicz (2008).

Sosnowski was dominating 39-year-old Vidoz throughout the whole bout putting Italian veteran on the defensive. Since the first minute of the contest, the Pole plagued his rival with series of hooks and constant pressing. Despite Sosnowski’s immense predominance in the rounds five and six, the rival managed to survive the severe crisis. The Italian gladiator was able to put some pressure on the 30-year old Pole in the seventh round but "The Dragon" countered decidedly in the finish.
 

The rest of the encounter proceeded to Sosnowski’s distinct dictation but experienced Vidoz lasted till the end. The battle finished with the unaniomous decision of the judges: 117-111, 119-109 and 120-108.
